Whew, finally a day without any homework. I guess i can catch up with blogging at last.

Mondays are perpetually tiring. Its even worse today, cause I wasn't feeling well this morning.
Even felt like vomiting during E Math lesson. Still got air-con lor, so cold.

During recess, i felt better. And we had Bio practical today. We did the potato well-osmosis thingy. And we had to plot a graph with change in length against percentage of sucrose solution in each petri-dish.

After leaving the lab at 4.45pm, I went to the band room for practice. Some idiots fiddled with my horn before i came lor. They took out some of the valves and anyhow replace here and there, zzz!

Band practice yesterday. Being a Wednesday, we had sectionals as usual.

Each section went off with the sec 1s to teach them. Melvin and I taught the horns. Now I have two juniors called Roland and Jeremy, haha. After about at hour of practice, they can play C, D, E, F, G, A.

Everything is going smoothly so far for MSSMB. Now, lets hope the new recruits don't leave the band.

'Mickey Meows' and 'Hong Kong'

SSW today. Joshua didn't come cause he had librarian work at school. Met Alif on the bus to AMK Station.

Attendance was quite bad. Like half of the band will be taking leave cause of 'N' or 'O' levels. So each of us were asked to bring someone in next week. Hope i can find one.

Anyway, it started off with a theory lesson on the circle of fourths. I was really blur throughout cause we were never taught this before.

Next, we side-read Aroldo, conducted by Mr. Tan. We went through again a few times before breaking off for a 1 hour lunch.

After eating, we tried out Deux Movements, with Tian Ze playing the Alto Sax solo part. I was alone for the rest of the day cause Aidil had to leave for some poly open house. Great song i must say, i love the solo part.

The next piece was James Barnes' Third Symphony. Horn parts were fun, especially in the fourth movement, Finale. But this piece is damn challenging. To me, its much harder than POC. There's this horn solo accompanied by third clarinets in the third movement, played by Gerald and I. Very beautiful solo, haha. We were in tune, and Mr. Andrew Ng commented it by saying it was twin telapathy.

After SSW, I went to Northpoint's KFC with Fikri, Gerald, and Alif. We had the time of our lives prank-calling people with Fikri's phone. The victims were Aaron, Joshua, and Gladys, lol. But in the end, Alif spoiled all the fun by being so fake.

Arrival of the new blood

Damn, my internet browser suddenly closed on its own. Sadly, i was almost at the end. Well, i guess i'll just have to type everything out again.

Band again after school. At 2.30pm, those who didn't have anymore classes came down to the band room to help prepare for the Sec 1 'audition'. Actually, its just a little thing to determine the sections for the new sec 1s.

At 3.00pm, the Sec 1s who wrote their names on the sign-up form during CCA Day started pouring in. 27 of them showed up, i think. Woodwinds on one side and Brass on the other. They were to try out the instruments and if they could make a sound, they would get a tick on this form.

I have to say that this year's recruitment is much better than last years. We even have one Alto Saxophonist and one Trumpeter from their primary school's band. Oh, we also have one Hornist, but he joined during P1 and quit the same year. He can't even hold the horn properly so it doesn't really count, does it?

And two trouble-makers decided to leave for NPCC. One kept going rounds and trying the instruments over and over again. The other took a pen and ticked everything without trying any, Geez.

After the sec 1s left, we had instrument maintenance. I remember the last time we did this was during June of 2005, just before M8.

After everything was done, we were dismissed.

It's Recruitment Day!

Yo.

Yesterday was a fun day indeed. I went to school at 7am. There, some of us helped to carry the benches from the canteen and into the study area where our stall was.

Later, Zhen Hui and I decorated the board. Halfway, we were helped by our new band teacher, Mrs Yeo. She helped us to cut out some pages from the M9 booklet to paste onto the board. Meanwhile, the rest of the band were going through the pieces. At 8.50am, we went down the the study area and got ready.

At 9.30am, the Sec 1s left the hall and came down. That's when we started playing. The order of the songs were Rich Girl, The Pink Panther meets the Flintstones, Circle of Life, and then Shrek Dance Party.

After that, it was time to pull in the Sec 1s. Alif, You Xian and I played some songs from the Movie Themes book, but we stopped like in 3 minutes cause it hard to even hear myself, haha. Then there was a mace-work performance by our very own Ray Wee. If you want to see a video of it, go to either Aaron or Joshua's blog.

After some more pulling of Sec 1s, we played Shrek Dance Party again. After that, we went up to the band room and kept our instruments. Unfortunately this time, we got a nice long 15 minute lecture from Mr Tan about communication between the members and the teachers. Since the YCS people were just next door, I'll bet they had some fun listening to us get scolded.

At 11.55, my parents fetched us (the SSW peeps, except Shaun since he took a year's leave for his 'O' levels) to Sembawang CC for 'practice'. When we reached there, Tian Ze approached us. Unknown to us, all SSW members had to audition for the chance to go to Sydney with SWO for the Australian Band Festival/ Competition or something like that.

The audition criteria ;

1. Scales up to 4 flats and 4 sharps
2. 3 Choice Pieces of our choice
3. Side Reading
4. Aural
5. Practical Musicianship

Since this was a surprise to us, we had only 10 minutes to prepare. Anyway, I was the first from Montfort to go in, bleah. The judges were Mr Desmond Ng & Mr Andrew Ng.

Firstly, scales. They tested me on Bb Major and C Major. Kinda messed up a bit on this one.

Next, the choice pieces. I play Flight of the Falcon, Rhapsody for Euphonium, and Circle of Life. This was ok, though i was corrected by Mr D. Ng a few times.

Then side reading. I was damn shocked when they said Rebroll, lol. Screwed up big time on this.

Fourthly, Aural. This means i have to mimic whatever tune he plays on the piano. This aspect was quite good. Starting notes were correct both times, but sometimes i missed the later notes by 1 semitone.

Lastly, practical musicianship. I had to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in Eb Major and G Major scales. This was also good. Anyway, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is 1155665 4433221 5544332 5544332 1155665 4433221.

After that. I went to the cafeteria for lunch with Joshua. Maggie Mee, haha.

Back at the band room, Mr D. Ng told us about the SWO trip. Then we listened to some recordings previously played by SSW and SWO. After that, we were free to go.

Fikri, Joshua, Gerald, Alif and I went to Yishun GV's Long John Silvers for dinner. We sat down and chatted until 6pm.

Parted with Fikri, and then went home with the Montfort people after that.

Yesterday, we confirmed the songs that we are going to play for the Sec 1 Orientation today during band practice.

The pieces are Circle of Life, Under the Sea, The Pink Panther meets the Flintstones, and Go West.

Oh, we tried Saxophonia first, cause Alif recommended it. Unfortunately, we couldn't get pass 5 bars of the song, haha. Then, I asked Joshua to take out Go West. In the end, it was selected by Mr Pisit.

----------

Today, I went to the band room after my classes to complete the notice board for CCA Day. It was opened by Joshua and Kenneth, at 2.30pm. They spent $8 from the $20 budget buying black paper and a silver ink marker from the bookshop,

Later, I went with Joshua to the Kodak near school to get some pictures printed. The auntie there asked us to come back in 20 minutes, so we went to McDonald's to eat first.

After eating, we got the pictures and went back to school. Then we set off to completing the board. Meanwhile, Dickson pulled a Sec 1 kid into the band room. So, we tried to influence him to join band. Most of the time, he was running around the band room throwing the Christmas ornaments around with Kenneth Ang and Dickson.

At 6pm, we cleared up and locked up the band room. We went home after that.

Life's boring

Bleah, Sec 3 life is really tiring. Latest lesson is 4.30, and theres band on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. And theres also a lot of books to carry each day. I hope to get used to it soon.

Joseph and Shaun opened up the band room today to practice their ensemble pieces. I went in after classes at 3.30pm. Played around with the instruments until 5.30pm, then i went home. And here i am, blogging.

I realize my posts seems to be getting boring. And I'm starting to hate this blogskin. I'll try to make one when i find some free time, which is probably during the weekends.

Cya.

Its Saturday.

There was SSW practice in the morning. But, i had to go down to school to help with the banner. So i did. Joseph and Zhen Hui were there when we reached. Later on, Joshua and Rainald came. Since our black color spray was spoiled, I went with Joseph and Rainald to Just when some of us was about to leave school for Sembawang CC, Tian Ze called and said practice would end early today cause of the lack of members.

With nothing else to do, Aaron, Joshua, Gerald, and I went to CompassPoint's Symphony Music School to get some ensemble pieces for CCA Day next Saturday. Unfortunately, they didn't sell scores there. Later, we went down to KFC for lunch.

After eating, we decided to go to the Meridien Hotel to get the scores. But at Serangoon Station, Joshua decided to go home. So we didn't go after all.

Well, nevermind. Lets hope we can find some good pieces on Sibelius.

Say hello to the life of a Sec 3

Hello.

So, the first two days of school have passed.

Yesterday was boring. We did mostly administrative stuff and listened to Mrs Lee talk.

Oh, she held us back for recess by 20 minutes yesterday, claiming that she 'did not hear the bell'.

After dismissal at 1.30 yesterday, I went down to the canteen to grab a bite and went up to the band room for fall in. Quite a number turned up, though there was only two sec 2s.

It turned out that Mrs Cassandra Tan had left the band, so now the band coordinator is Ms Ong. To replace Mrs Tan, a new member of the faculty Ms/Mrs Yeo came in.

Anyway, we received news about the upcoming events this year. Band camp, band exchange, balloon hat festival, blah blah. SYF is being held at SCH again. So we will be having a rehearsal there on the 27th of this month.

We played Song of the Brave, Majulah Singapura, and Overture to a New Age (bar 258 - 277).
